Is an M1 even needed? It would chgnae the entire lineup of ALL BMW’s if so. Impossible? NO, never say never; but is it worth waiting for? Not in my opinion, but it depends on what you’re driving now and and what one can afford.I was recently faced with this decision and here is what I chose (if it’s of any help with you quest and question).Questions I asked myself were:1. 335 turbo is very close to performance and Dyno numbers at the E46 M3 so (do I buy new 335 or used M3 and what do I gain in either scenario???)2. 135 coming very, very soon is same engine as 335 only lighter, but smaller. Not having actual car to see/touch the numbers looked great, but left an aire of doubt because I couldn’t drive it YET. Maybe that’s just my style???3. The new E92 s numbers are nearly identical (in spite of the E92 s 8 cylinders, 415 hp and $ 62k price tag) to my E46 M3. Is it worth $ 20k for the same performance and only a body style chgnae? So in summation, I feel we’re at a VERY INTERESTING place with BMW BIG chgnaes taking place, but still the unbelievable and Ultimate Driving Machine.Cards are shuffling and models are being replaced or supersceded quickly so only the future will tell once we learn what the engineers are thinking.Summation to answer your question???Buy the 1 series NOW and see what evolves in a couple of years (ya never want the first year of a concept car anyway right?) or buy a used M3 so ya don’t have to worry about the future. The M3 EATS, EATS, EATS almost ANYTHING else there is on the road so can it get any better? The 135 will tell it’s story and we’ll all see against the M3, but for now??? no comparison.
